There's football in Connecticut all the time, and no more UFL in New York (as of now). Chris Palmer was also named the new head coach of the team, as I stated in the previous article regarding these topics. Palmer was also named GM of the team, so he will be leading player signings and what not (see next post).

I really do not like this move by the UFL for several reasons.

-Cons

You lose many New York based fans, as it would take anyone coming from any of the 5 burroughs, Long Island and Westchester (and beyond) 2+ hours to get to Hartford, opposed to 1-2 hours max coming from the same areas

A mere 5,021 people showed up in Hartford for the lone Sentinels game held there on November 12, in which they lost to the Florida Tuskers 24-6

-Pros

Team owner Bill Meyer said “It was clear from the game we played in Hartford last year that there is a strong passion for our game in the local community. This region has a rich history of fans supporting sports teams on both the professional and college level and we are proud to now be a part of that landscape.” (which I tend to disagree with).

New coach Chris Palmer played football at Immaculate High School in Danbury, CT and was a quarterback at Southern Connecticut State University before a successful spell coaching at the University of New Haven from 1986-87

Connecticut governor M. Jodi Rell believes the team will bring a boost in the local economy

I personally don't like the move, but feel free to leave comments about how you feel about it. I'll keep this site going and probably just rename it once they name the new team. Keep reading for more updates!Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-69873463517868615602010-02-13T17:31:00.006-05:002010-02-13T17:38:26.938-05:00What to Watch For:Go to ufl-football.com on Tuesday, February 16 at 11am ET as UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue and Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell hold a press conference.

It is not known what they will be talking about, most likely that the Sentinels will be relocating to Connecticut permanently.

Be sure to tune in!Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-55680352698787696432010-01-30T16:22:00.006-05:002010-01-30T18:21:05.711-05:00So Long, Ted; Hello HartfordAccording to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Sentinels have found a new head coach. 60-year-old Chris Palmer, now former quarterback coach of the New York Giants, will be the new head man. Palmer had been a coach for 20 years in the NFL, with the Oilers (now Titans), Patriots, Jaguars, Browns, Texans, Cowboys and Giants under several positions. He has worked as the wide recievers coach, the quarterbacks coach for some, the Offensive Coordinator for others, and the Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns for two seasons. Although his two seasons in Cleveland were failures (5-27 combined), he still proves to have head coaching experience.

Palmer has worked with quarterbacks such as Doug Flute (USFL), Drew Bledsoe and Eli Manning. He has also coached under influences like Bill Parcells, Tom Capers and Tom Coughlin. He has also been to 3 Super Bowls with three different teams.

Expect the Sentinels to start the 2010 season with a new quarterback, more than likely an undrafted one fresh out of college. My hope is that Palmer can actually work with what he is given and maybe give us our first win. This also most likely marks the end of the reign of Ted Cottrell, unless he is named a to a lower offensive coaching part.

Vacchiano is also reporting that the Sentinels will be moving from New York to Hartford, Connecticut perminantly. I really hope this isn't the case, mainly because the driving distance for me to attend home games in Connecticut would be further than for me to go to Giants Stadium or Citi Field.Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-297669355879974812010-01-11T23:11:00.001-05:002010-01-11T23:12:09.795-05:00Taking Suggestions! As this slow first offseason goes on, we here at the View would like some suggestions as to how we could improve the blog! The loss crushed the Tuskers' undefeated season.

Probable MVP-to-be Brooks Bollinger played like it, going 22/45 for 306 yds, 2 TD and 2 INT. The 2 interceptions were unlike him, for he only threw 3 all season. Las Vegas MVP candidate DeDe Dorsey had 11 car for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns. They were destroyed once again on 11/20 by the Las Vegas Locomotives. IN FRONT OF A CROWD OF 13,306 in Las Vegas (GO TO GAMES NEXT YEAR PEOPLE), fans saw backup QB Tim Rattay go 10/21 for 101 yds and 2 TDs and lead his team to a 41-7 victory. MVP nominee DeDe Dorsey ran 14 carries for 60 yds and a touchdown.

Ingle Martin was terrible once again, going 11/23 for 131 yards and 2 INTs. Quinn Gray also took 12 dropbacks, completed 5, for 38 yards and an INT. The entire rushing attack was god awful, like the other 5 games: 25 carries for 48 yards... Charles Ali had 2 carries for 2 yards and a touchdown. The Locos defense shut us down, having 3 INTs, one sack and one blocked kick for a touchdown in the first quarter.

It's been a rough first year people. I hope that you'll all follow this offseason, as I will still be posting. I also hope you will spread the word about this blog and we can get more viewers! Let's hope to get some more experience for next year, maybe we can win a game!
Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-20776938988499218212009-11-16T20:27:00.003-05:002009-11-25T23:13:47.268-05:00Sents Re-add Bacher; Try to Find Some Hope for Win Number OneCJ Bacher, who was cut from the preseason squad, has been asked to return to the team for the final game. He could very well see some action during the game, especially if Quinn Gray sits out because of his quad.

Also, CB Tony Tiller and OL Daniel Oliphant were placed on IR.Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-76202123652454077782009-11-16T17:21:00.005-05:002009-11-25T23:14:41.851-05:00Sentinels-Locomotives PreviewThe Sents and Locos will face off again on Friday to close out the premiere regular season. In their week 5 meeting, the Locos destroyed the Sentinels 41-10 at home, at Rentschler Field in Hartford. JP Losman went 27/37 for 277 yds and 2 TD. This was also Ingle Martin's first and only start, in which he was 21/36 for 173 yds, 1 TD and 1 int.

Now as most fans know, the Locos beat the Redwoods for a spot in the UFL Championship on Friday the 27th at 12pm on Versus, to take on the undefeated Tuskers. It is not known if Locos coach Jim Fassil plans to start regular JP Losman or rest him and start backup Tim Rattay. I do expect that Ingle Martin will get more snaps than Quinn Gray, if he decides to play, who left the last game early with a quad injury.

Losman is 2nd in the league currently with 1193 passing yards, Gray third with 601. LV WR David Kircus is 2nd in rec yards with 290, NY WR Craphonso Thorpe 3rd with 269 yds. LV LB Teddy Lehman leads the league with 34.5 total tackles, and DE Eric Henderson is T-1 with 3.0 sacks.

KEYS to the Game for New York:
-Contain Josh Scobey. He is known to be able to both take handoffs and go out for passes.
-Let Craphonso Thorpe run free. He's tall, he's fast. If he can get open it's an easy score; and let's face it, we need at least one BIG play before the end of the season.
-Good punt kicking/coverage. Scott Player is an average punter who we haven't seen pin anyone inside the 10 yet. In which case, Sammie Parker is known to have a good ability to return kicks for some distance, so we need to hold him back.
-If the running game doesn't work early-STOP USING IT. The Sents' leading rusher is LaBrandon Toefield, who has 111 yards, SIXTH in the league.

Also, BREAKING, TRAGIC NEWS: the Sentinels have waived K Piotr Czech, who we are quite fond of at the View. It was a stupid move, in my eyes, especially with one game left to play with no marbles on the table. They added K Taylor Rowan out of Western Illinois. And so this brings the end of an era, and the Prodigious Piotr column.Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-77211279217046532122009-11-13T23:06:00.005-05:002009-11-25T23:16:14.108-05:00Recap of Week 6 Game: Tuskers Stomp SentinelsOn Thursday, the Florida Tuskers defeated the Sentinels 24-6. Another awful offensive game for the Sents, they only had a mere 227 yards total offensively. Quinn Gray looked great throughout the first half, going 12/21 for 112 yds. However, a knee to the hip caused him to miss the remainder of the game, as he left late in the 2nd quarter. Ingle Martin came in, and began 0/5, including an interception with 10 seconds remaining in the red zone. He finished with a line of a terrible 6/18 for just 68 yards. Craphonso Thorpe contributed 7 receptions for 78 yds.

Once again, as in the first four games, the running attack was atrocious. Shannon Woods (starter), LaBrandon Toefield and Charles Ali combined for 18 carries and just 36 yards. Leon Williams contributed 8 total tackles in the loss.

Only 5,201 fans were at the game in Hartford, the final home game. We need more people at games next year!

The Sentinels have one more game to win their first franchise game against the Locomotives next week (11/20).Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-1925877684522116492009-11-07T20:51:00.000-05:002009-11-07T20:52:42.911-05:00Prodigious PiotrAlthough having limited attempts, Piotr Czech was perfect in yesterdays game knocking down his only field goal attempt and his only extra point opportunity. First came his pat after an impressive 83 yard 7 minute 44 second touchdown drive by New York near the end of the second quarter. After a 59 yard Sentinels drive, Czech kicked a 38 yard field goal with just under 7 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Piotr has now made 5 of 6 attempts on the season and is a perfect 4 for 4 in extra point attempts. We will be looking forward to the rest of his season and hope the Sents can get a couple of wins on the board before the season is over!

~Written by Dan Bocek~Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-17001972335393111872009-11-07T20:24:00.004-05:002009-11-25T23:16:33.041-05:00Sents Get Demolished by the LocosOn Wednesday, the Sentinels got destroyed by the Las Vegas Locos 41-10, and dropping to 0-4. Contributing 7 of their 13 points was place-kicker Piotr Czech. Czech went 2 for 2 in field goal attempts, one from 36 yards out and the other from 45. Both came in the 2nd quarter, one of them ending the half (45). Piotr also had an extra point on the night capping off a 33 yard touchdown drive towards the end of the 3rd quarter. Along with great power and accuracy, Czech shows great composure on the field. He successfully kicked his first half-ending 45 yard field goal after California tried freezing him and called a time out right before his first attempt. Czech has had a great season so far and it looks like the Sentinels will be able to count on him during clutch situations later on in the year.

~Written by Dan Bocek~Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-63602427538964446072009-11-03T19:05:00.003-05:002009-11-03T20:23:46.499-05:00Piotr CzechAs you well know, I am quite a big Piotr Czech fan; as are my friends. We believe Piotr is a good enough kicker to be in the NFL, and we are thankful that he is a NY Sentinel.

One of my friends has accepted to take up on a Piotr Czech column he on The View. There is also now a Piotr Czech Fan Club on Facebook. A couple of friends and I were in attendance. First, I must say, if you can people, GO TO THE GAMES! They let you sit ANYWHERE you wanted, no matter what your ticket said. So we paid $20 each for front row tickets at the 30 yard line. A mere 10,318 people were in attendance with us, many of which were little league football players. GO!

Anyway, Quinn Gray looked very shaky throughout the game, though he was 22/32 for 230 yds, 1 touchdown and no interceptions. He also fumbled twice, losing one. Craphonso Thorpe had a big game with 9 rec for 93 yards. Paul Pratt picked off his second pass of the season, tying him with Jerome Carter of Florida for the league lead. Newly added Leon Williams had a beastly 11 total tackles (9 solo) and DT Bryan Save had the Sents only sack. The Sents had another weak rushing game, combining for just 81 yards on 21 combined carries. Chris Barclay left in the 1st quarter with a right hamstring injury after just 3 carries for 13 yards. LaBrandon Toefield went 12 carries for 57 yds to replace him. The Redwoods improve to 2-2.

The Sentinels have just 2 remaining home games. Please go and support!Dan Reinerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01989024613245066579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8898321393331688560.post-89608659511498229492009-10-28T23:18:00.001-04:002009-10-28T23:19:19.370-04:00Going to the gameHey, so three friends and I are going to the Sents game tomorrow.
